As tensions between Elon Musk and Donald Trump escalate online, many are now wondering what will become of the Tesla that the President recently bought.
For those just catching up, the conflict began to simmer when Musk stepped down from his position as co-lead of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) last month.
At the time, Musk explained his departure as the natural conclusion of his temporary role.
In a post on X dated May 21, Musk said: “As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending. The @DOGE mission will only grow stronger as it becomes embedded across the government.”
However, the situation quickly soured. Days later, Musk publicly criticized Trump’s new economic bill, calling it a disappointment that would add nearly $3 trillion to the national deficit by 2034.
“The massive spending bill increases the budget deficit rather than reducing it,” Musk told CBS, adding that it contradicted the goals of the DOGE initiative.
Then, on June 5, Musk took things a step further, writing on X: “Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!”
Trump didn’t respond directly to the accusation, but he did post on Truth Social claiming Musk didn’t resign—he was pushed.
“Elon was ‘wearing thin’. I asked him to leave. I revoked his EV Mandate, which forced people to buy electric cars no one wanted—he knew this was coming—and he went CRAZY!”
Musk responded by reposting Trump’s claim on X, calling it “Such an obvious lie. So sad.”
According to ABC News, Trump doesn’t appear bothered by the public spat. After a phone call with him on June 6, sources said he seemed “remarkably unconcerned” about the fallout.
He also reportedly dismissed any possibility of reconciliation, allegedly responding, “You mean the man who has lost his mind?” when asked if he’d consider making peace.
That leaves the fate of the Tesla in question. Trump purchased the red Tesla Model S back on March 11, but due to presidential security protocols, it was intended for staff use only.
At the time of the purchase, Trump had spoken out about vandalism targeting Tesla vehicles, vowing to take action.
“We’re going to catch them, they’re bad guys. We’re going to catch you, and you’re going to go through hell,” he had warned.
But with the relationship between the two powerful figures now fractured, a White House official confirmed to The New York Post that Trump plans to either sell or give away the luxury vehicle.
