If Barack Obama and Donald Trump both run for president in 2028, a survey of hundreds of US people who are currently registered to vote has revealed who would win.
Given that the US Constitution now stipulates that “no person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice,” neither Obama nor Trump could run for office again after winning two elections. That is, unless the regulations were altered.
Trump has spoken publicly about the possibility of him returning to office again after his current term, telling NBC News earlier this year that he was ‘not joking’, and claiming there were ‘methods’ which would allow him to return.
Assuming that these’methods’ would also work for Obama, Daily Mail/J.L. Partners went ahead and asked Americans who they believe would win if the current president and the former president were to run against each other.
Seven percent of the 1,013 registered voters who cast ballots said that they were “unsure” or would cast a “other” ballot in such an election.
Nonetheless, over 50% of the participants expressed confidence in their response. In the event that Trump and Obama faced up, Obama, a Democrat, would prevail.
Trump received 41% of the vote, while Obama received 52% of the vote from poll respondents.
Obama would still win handily even if the poll’s 3.1 percentage point margin of error were taken into consideration.
The Daily Mail has reported that 68 percent of Black voters and 73 percent of Hispanic voters chose Obama, contributing to his 11 percent lead.
Obama again prevailed with 50 percent of the vote among independent voters, compared to 39 percent for Trump.
Overall, 49 percent of respondents said they approved of Trump’s job performance as president, while 51 percent had an unfavorable opinion, according to the poll, which also provided insight into approval rates for the present leader.
However, the study indicates that if Trump were to run against Hillary Clinton, he would win since 44 percent of voters would choose the former reality TV star, compared to 43 percent who would vote for Clinton.
Even though the current Constitution makes it unlikely that Trump and Obama will ever run for office, the Republican has stated that such an election would be a “good one.”
