Prince Harry’s recent efforts to reconnect with his father, King Charles, have reportedly gone unanswered, according to a palace insider.
Since stepping away from royal duties in 2020 with his wife, Meghan Markle, Harry’s ties with his royal family—especially with his father and brother—have remained strained. Although he briefly saw the King last year when news of Charles’s can.cer diagnosis first became public, they haven’t met in person since.
This is despite Harry making several trips to the UK over the past year. His most recent visit occurred just a week ago for a court appeal concerning the downgrade of his security arrangements in the UK, which stemmed from a 2020 decision by the Home Office. However, despite his presence in the country, no meeting with his father took place.
According to People magazine, friends of the Duke of Sussex revealed that Harry has been reaching out to the King through letters and phone calls, but his attempts have received no response. Furthermore, it’s been reported that Harry hasn’t been kept informed about any updates on his father’s condition or can.cer treatment progress.
A palace source told People, “I don’t think there is any rapprochement,” while another insider described the relationship between father and son as “distant.”
Neither Harry nor the royal family has publicly addressed these reports. However, Harry has previously expressed his ongoing love for his family. Following his visit to see the King in February 2024, shortly after Charles’s can.cer diagnosis was made public—Harry emphasized how much he appreciated the opportunity to spend time with his father.
Speaking to Good Morning America while attending an Invictus Games event, he said, “I love my family. The fact that I was able to get on a plane and go and see him and spend any time with him, I’m grateful for that.”
Since then, Harry has largely avoided discussing his royal relatives in public and has not been seen with any family members during his visits to the UK. It remains unclear whether he has plans to reunite with the King soon.
