Since then, authorities have revealed that eight locals, including four medical students, were murdered in the horrific event.
A plume of smoke was seen rising from the wrecked airplane as it exploded on camera. The plane was scheduled to land in the UK capital at 18:25 BST.
Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, 40, of Leicester, England, was the sole person to escape the cra.sh of the Air India plane, according to police, and he was seated in seat 11a.
Following the tragic incident, 47-year-old Ruangsak Loychusak came forward to disclose that he was a plane cra.sh survivor who had previously occupied seat 11A.
The Thai singer and actor, who has starred in a number of TV series and movies, including The Mask Singer, was on board Thai Airways International Flight 261 when it stalled and cra.shed into a swamp during a December 1998 landing attempt.
With 101 fatalities, the incident is regarded as Thailand’s second-deadliest plane crash. It had 14 crew members and 132 passengers on board at the time.
One of the 45 survivors, Loychusak, reportedly told the media that he had heard that Ramesh was occupying the same seat as him.
He started by saying, “The only person who survived the Indian plane crash was seated in the same seat number as me, 11A.”
“I would like to express my sympathies to everyone who lost loved ones in the tragedy.”
Even though the air circulation on board was considered “normal,” Loychusak acknowledged for ten years that he found flying “difficult” and that he “struggled breathing.”
“I avoided speaking to anyone and always stared outside the window, blocking anyone from closing it to maintain my sense of safety,” the star recounted.
“If I saw dark clouds or a rainstorm outside, I would feel terrible, like I was in hell.
“I can still remember the sounds, smells, and even the taste of the water in the swamp the plane crashed into. For a long time, I would keep the feelings to myself.”
Speaking from his hospital bed in Asarwa, Ahmedabad, Ramesh has talked extensively about his experience on board the downed Air India flight and how he was able to escape the wreckage.
An inquiry into the Indian tragedy is ongoing, however it is believed that a mayday call was issued from the aircraft’s cockpit barely seconds after takeoff.
According to authorities, the emergency message stated, “Mayday […] no thrust, losing power, unable to lift.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India issued a statement after the nearly tragic flight.
The whole of India was “devastated by the air tragedy,” he said.
“It’s indescribable that so many lives were lost in such a tragic and abrupt way,” he continued.
Condolences to all the families who have lost a loved one. In addition to knowing that the gap left behind will be felt for years to come, we also comprehend their anguish. Om Shanti.
